In today’s world there are those who can be entrepreneurs and there are those who do not possess what many believe to be the most important skill required in business - being a people person.
Relationships come into play in every aspect of an entrepreneur’s life. Your business will not blossom and survive without giving attention to those people with whom you come in contact with.
It’s essential to take notice of, meet, talk with, spend time with, and get to know people. Don’t be bashful - ask them about their lives. Ask them what you can do for them. Ask how you can help. Rest assured, they will remember you for being interested. You will be recognized as someone who has taken the time, cares and is in the know. Someone who listens. Your goal is to be the contact everyone remembers. Business owners who have cultivated these qualities and attributes instinctively know that this approach will result in the growth of their business and ultimate success.
You’ve heard the expression - it’s the little things that count. Entrepreneurs know they have to meet and talk to many people and exchange information in order to grow a business. The benefits of your efforts will bear fruit somewhere down the line. Eventually, someone you helped or someone you spoke with, “way back when”, will contact you. Perhaps they will give you a referral or throw business your way.
Rule # 1 – It’s imperative when dealing with people that you be positive and honest. By using a low-key approach, you will be noticed. It just happens naturally. You’ll realize a return on your investment without the hard sell.
Do you believe in magic? If not, start paying attention. Start remembering (or keeping notes) of the people you meet and what you talk about. And it’s an added caveat if you can remember first and, even better, last names. After a while, study how many people you see and actually recognize. Keep track on how much your network has grown. When something good happens, analyze the path that was taken. Scrutinize that one little interaction which led to the new client or friend. Recognize instinctively the reason why you met the person. Remember how you found them. Remember who was involved. Learn by your successes and mistakes.
It really is magic! It truly is powerful!
