1. You’ll always have a ride to or from the airport. Shuttles are terrific, but a FREE ride is even better.
2. You’ll always have someone to bail you out, if you ever need someone to bail you out. Hey, anything can happen!
3. You’ll have a long list of escort possibilities for that formal business dinner. If your spouse is complaining about going to “another one of those parties where I don’t know anyone”, ask someone that loves networking to attend with you. They’ll be happy, you’ll have a better time, and your spouse will enjoy staying at home where he/she can be “comfortable”. Sadly, with that attitude, your spouse probably doesn’t have ANY network at all… you’re it!
4. You’ll always have someone to scratch/watch your back.
5. You can avoid seeing a psychiatrist. Just call one of your friends to “chat”.
6. You’ll have an abundant choice of good “references” for your next job interview, as well as “emergency contacts” for your child for school.
7. You’ll always find an exercise partner somewhere in your group, so you have a cohort for those trips to the health club. We all need that extra push, and an exercise partner will make you get up and go, even when you have NO get up and go.
8. Vacation travel. You love it. Your spouse doesn’t. The beauty of a large support system is that you never have to travel alone unless you want to travel alone. In your business or personal network, at least one person (and maybe more) will want to see Bermuda, St. Thomas, Hawaii, Switzerland, California and more…
9. You’ll walk into meetings and events with confidence and flair. But, don’t just talk with those people you already know. Never stop growing your support system. Seek out new faces and introduce yourself. Then introduce those new acquaintances to your friends and associates. Your network will grow and so will your referral base!
10. You’ll never have to go to the movies, dinner, or the theater alone. Unless you WANT to go to the movies, dinner, or the theater alone.
Succeeding at networking and having a great support system doesn’t mean you are never alone. In fact, you’ll probably find there are times when you prefer to be alone to enjoy some downtime. It’s always good to have options!
