Summer is truly here when you've been to the Shore.
There is nothing as rejuvenating as the roll of the
ocean waves as they crash on the beach. The sounds
of summer are echoed while you lie on your towel in the
sand;children gleefully playing, the soft whisper of the
surf and bubbling foam as the waves come in to
dissolve the sand castles near the water's edge...
Ah-summer. Enjoy some downtime. Leave your cell
phone at home. Make a plan to enjoy at least one
sunrise at the seaside.
One Ocean - Many Faces
DAWN: If you want to feel renewed and rejuvenated,
wake up early. Slip on your sandals, yesterday's tee
shirt (because you'll shower later), capri pants and
a light jacket and get thee to the beach. Make certain
you're on the beach before sunrise. Slowly walk along
the water's edge or just sit on the lifeguard stand and
bask in the pink glow of the sun. Watch the birds
going about their business of having breakfast as the
waves roll back to reveal a multitude of small
crustaceans to enjoy. The sun first appears as a bright
pink tinge above the horizon. As it moves above the
clouds, the reflection on the water's edge creates the
perfect Kodak moment; one single bright red ray shining
on the wet sand. If you're lucky, just before you take
your photograph, a seagull flies across the horizon as
the shutter clicks and the picture of a beautiful sunrise
is captured forever. When you look at that photo, you'll
still feel the sea salt as it hits your face and feel the
cool morning sand between your toes. Your mind lets
go of the business details it normally holds. It allows
you to reflect on the beauty and wonder of nature, the
importance of your existence and hopefully provides
you inspiration and answers to the important questions
you've been asking lately. The ocean at dawn
represents bright new business opportunities and fresh
new ideas for your next contact. Everything is new,
your attitude is positive and the future, just as today,
holds endless possibilities.
NOON: The lifeguards have moved their stands to the
water's edge. Their whistles are heard throughout the
day as they herd swimmers to the safe areas directly in
front of their stands. Beach umbrellas stretch across
the horizon as far as you can see. Children swim, run
and play paddle-ball on the hard, wet sand. The smell
of suntan lotion saturates the air. You crunch gritty
sand between your teeth as you eat your lunch and try
to hide from the seagulls hovering above your head
ready to swoop down and share your food. The ocean
at noon to me represents "normalcy". Like any
business day, everyone is going about their work. The
daylight is harsh and the sun is hot. While the sand
sticks to your suntan lotion, your hair gets messy from
swimming in the salt water and your body is beaten by
the incoming waves, the ocean at noon is like any day
at the office; nothing exceptional, sometimes
uncomfortable and messy, and often someone gets
burned. Just another day in business!
NIGHTFALL: The ocean is a spooky place at night.
Like a new business contact, it's dark and scary and
you don't know what to expect. The beach is almost
deserted and because of the lack of light, vision is
limited. Most of the ocean is a large, invisible unknown.
We are cautious of things we can't see with our own
eyes. When the wind picks up, the sea air and salty
mist sticks to our skin. We continue walking in the dark,
always aware that someone or something might appear
from the darkness at anytime. In business even at
times when we can see no light, a bright spot appears.
In contrast to the dark, starless, gloomy ocean
evenings, there are those nights at the beach when
you stand under the street light and look out on a dark
ocean illuminated by a full moon shining its bright
reflective light across the water from horizon to shore.
These are special moments perfect for a romantic walk
under the moonlight. Your business journey may take
you to the unknown where it's hard to see your path or
future. Remember there will always be a "bright night"
among the others and your path will be illuminated by
shining possibilities.
There you have it. Summer at the beach. The many
moods of the ocean. As you enjoy the water and
beach and fresh sea air, rejoice in the many faces of
your business or profession. Revel in the good times,
work through the normal and routine times and always
remember during the dark and difficult times, that light
and inspiration will come to help you through your
trials.

Summer and Fall...a special time for those players who
love the game of golf. Every company and almost every
organization has a golf outing. Not only are you able to
take an afternoon to enjoy your favorite pasttime, but
in doing so, you also get the satisfaction of knowing
you are helping to raise money for a good cause. You
are contributing in a special way to allow these
companies and organizations to raise necessary funds
for their special programs.
On July 12th I will have the pleasure of volunteering at
the 52nd North Penn Chamber Golf Outing. What a
great job! Fun, friends and great opportunities for
business networking. At right, Fred Sherman(Sovereign
Bank), Jon Clemmer(Moyer & Son) and Dan Reavy
(Verizon) enjoy last year's NPCC outing.
On Tuesday, September 14th, 2004, I will have yet
another opportunity to help with the 4th Annual Marie
Houghton Golf Outing to benefit The Wellness Place for
the Cancer Community. The Outing will take place at
the Mainland Golf Course. If you'd like to participate as
a single player, or if you have a foursome, you are most
welcome. TWP is also seeking Hole Sponsors ($250)
and Business or Personal Contributors, as well as
program ads ($25 - 100). Please call Julie Kline at:
215-230-5365 or contact Deborah at 215-412-7689.
For the less-experienced but fun-loving golfers among
us, join the North Penn Chamber for our Annual
Miniature Golf Tournament on Thursday, September
23rd at Freddy Hill. Hole sponsorships are very
affordable at $25 per sponsorship and Freddy's provides
great picnic fare for the evening. Come to play (prizes
provided for the winning foursome) and/or network with
a friendly crowd.

Love Those Ambassadors |
 |
As a member of the North Penn Chamber of Commerce
Ambassadors' Club, I have the unique opportunity
and pleasure to meet the new members to the Chamber
on an up close and personal level. The Ambassadors
host Chamber 101 quarterly for all new NPCC members.
At Chamber 101, we introduce the benefits and
opportunities the Chamber provides to its members.
This quarterly meeting also provides the new member a
chance to introduce themselves and their businesses to
current Chamber members. Networking and Education -
what a concept!
Thank you to my fellow members of the Ambassadors
and thank you to Michael, Al, Doris, Donna, Jane and
Sue at the Chamber office. You are a wonderful group
of people and great fun to work with, as well.
Do you recognize anyone on the right in the bottom
photo? Hmmmmmm could it be your personal assistant
and concierge? Yes it could!
