  • Have you experienced the same feeling? Does it seem as though we missed the entire summer? If we were fortunate, we took advantage of the long, pleasant days and invited friends for deck parties or small intimate gatherings outside. If our days were filled with responsibilities (like many of you to whom I've spoken), we have some regrets. We were so wrapped up with the details and duties we rarely got to sit outdoors and enjoy the sights and sounds of summer ourselves, let alone invite and entertain friends. Never fear, we hope and pray there is always next year.

Make it a goal to schedule some downtime for yourself so you don't miss next summer. Perhaps the upcoming holidays will slow down for you if you slow down for the holidays. Have you heard the old adage, take time to smell the roses? I bought a beautiful bouquet of white roses at Costco yesterday. Since I, myself, have not entertained many friends this summer, I vowed to stop now and smell the last roses of summer. Mmmmmm, how beautiful.

    Get Out and Vote

No shortcuts and no excuse - do your part to create the government you want. REGISTER TO VOTE. GO TO VOTE (in PA on November 2nd).

Click on the link below to see your deadline dates for registration, absentee ballots, etc. If you need a Pennsylvania voter registration form or any other voting form, send me an e-mail and I'll send you the correct form. For my out of state subscribers, visit your local State Senate or House of Representatives office or your County offices to pick up the appropriate forms for your own state.

You've heard it previously, I'm sure. It's a responsibility for all of us. We can't complain about the government if we aren't willing to go out twice a year to our local polls and vote for the candidates we choose as the best. There's no way around the fact that laws are made by the individuals we place into office. Let's make certain we make the best choice for our legislative leaders. They represent US!

This is not a job your personal assistant can perform for you. It's one you must take the time (a few moments) to handle yourself. It is, however, a worthwhile and important one.

    PA 2004 Election Calendar

    TIME SAVING TIPS -
TRIP ROUTING- My Outlook calendar each day includes the jobs I need to do and the people I need to see. I have my list and I have my stops scheduled in order. Think of your schedule like a large circle. When a new job or stop needs to be added to your daily schedule, think of the location and plug it in according to that circle. Avoid running to one end of town, back home or to the opposite end and then back out of town again. Each time a new request or errand needs to be planned, think about the circle of stops and insert your new one accordingly. By driving in a large loop, keeping all stops in order, you save minutes. These minutes add up to hours saved for yourself. If you find this hard to do, draw yourself a map and connect the dots. After a few weeks, you'll find yourself doing it automatically and you won't even need that picture anymore.

NEWS FIX - Put a portable radio in the bathroom (or a water proof radio in the shower). While shaving or putting on your makeup in the morning, have KYW news radio 1060AM playing. Every 15 minutes you'll hear the top news stories of the day along with the weather. You'll know how to dress for the temperature, perhaps avoid a traffic jam that makes you late for your appointment (traffic at 02, 12, 22, 32, 42 and 52 minutes after each hour) and make your plans based on the weather. Most importantly, you'll know what's happening in the world without being bombarded by negative visuals. You'll also save that 1/2 hour of TV news time to do something more interesting and fun with your family.

    YMH in the News
Recently I received a call from a staff writer at the Reporter newspaper. He was writing an article on home-based businesses. He was working with an associate and friend of mine, Deborah Moses. He had some questions and I had some answers. The same answers, it seems, as most people beginning a business on their own. Many businesses lend themselves nicely to working outside of an ordinary office. Service businesses, in particular, are good choices because most of the time you will be out of the office with your clients or doing jobs onsite for them. Your needs for a home office are minimal. The most important item for you is a cell phone. More on that later...

THANK YOU NOTE: Thanks to all who have given me such positive feedback on my piece in the Lansdale 1804-2004 Open Door to History commemorative Book recently published in The Reporter. It was fun to reminisce about the good old days growing up in Lansdale.

    Why Am I Here?
Most of you are very familiar with the work I do. Some of you know WHY I do it. Our population is growing older and everyone in this high tech world is so very busy. Despite the fact that many labor and time saving appliances exist, we still don't seem to have any extra time. Why is that? Because work multiplies to fill time available. Surely you've heard retirees say they "don't know how they ever had time to work."

I created my personal assistant and concierge service to help with this time crunch. It is not a matter of selling myself, it is a matter of offering a service which many people need. It is my pleasure to be available to assist my clients with their needs be it administrative work, errand runs, computer assistance, house-sitting, etc. Their appreciation when the job is finished (and sometimes even during the process) makes it more than worthwhile. You don't recieve appreciation and gratitude like this ANYWHERE in corporate America. Any personal concierge will tell you the same thing.

This was a topic of discussion at my last Mid-Atlantic Concierge and Errand Association meeting. The 18 members in attendance agreed. This is a TERRIFIC field in which to work and we get such FUN jobs to do.

    Mission Statement »

    Avoid Cell Shock
Routinely review your cell phone bill and usage. If someone else set up your plan, if you did it so long ago you don't remember how many minutes your plan includes, or if you have had a dramatic increase in business and calls, PLEASE REVIEW YOUR PLAN.

A simple call to your service provider will allow you to discuss better options for your mobile phone. There are so many different plans available for your individual needs. Don't wait until you receive a whopping bill for calls made outside of your allowed minutes or radio time. This will be a VERY COSTLY surprise and you will be responsible for the payment of the complete bill.

    Gracious Generosity
My thanks to Hal Kodikian for his support of The Wellness Place for the Cancer Community. Hal is the owner of several businesses including: Rental World and A-Z Party Rental. Hal is on the Board of Directors of the North Penn Chamber of Commerce. He has graciously assisted with special requests for TWP.

    Montgomery County Women's Conference
Last September I attended the Montgomery County Women's Conference for the first time. The day ran from 9 am through 4 pm. Attendees chose three workshops from an entire list of sessions. There was something for everyone. Lunch was provided among new friends and networking opportunities.

During the lunch break, women-owned businesses displayed their wares, services and information. The information and workbooks received that day, as well as the business contacts were well worth the $30.00 registration fee.

This year the event takes place on Saturday, September 18th, 2004 at Montgomery County Community College. Make it a date for YOU. Review the website (the hyperlink is listed below for your use), choose the workshops you wish to attend and get ready for a pleasant day well spent on helping you feel great!
