You've been through it all before - the holiday hustle
and bustle, the hectic pace of it all, the last minute
shopping trips - the ONE most important gift you need
to buy is out of stock - the list goes on.
I have a little secret; YOU can slow things down and
YOU have control over the way you spend your
holidays. Sure, there are some things you have to do,
but when you stop to think about the MOST important
things - that list gets shorter. We put ourselves under
stress just by wanting more. Our children are learning
that their lives and their worth are measured by the
house they live in, the designer clothes they wear, or
the number of possessions they have. Do we really
want this kind of competitive stress for our children?
During the next two weeks make it your goal to get
the "have-to" jobs done within only a day or two.
Determine that you'll spend the remainder of those
weeks with your family enjoying the goodwill and joy of
this wonderful season. If you're single, spend the time
with friends, volunteer for a cause, or cherish your
quiet time and privacy to indulge in one of your
passions.
Last evening I attended a performance of "The
Christmas Shoes" at a local worship center. In late
November, while standing in the cold watching the
Mardi Gras Parade with my daughter, some parade
participants were handing out information about the
performance. Because I took the time to follow
through, my daughter and I enjoyed a very special time
together at the performance. If you haven't heard of
THE CHRISTMAS SHOES, listen to the lyrics on the
radio next time you hear it. (Stations 101.1 and 104.5
FM play holiday music 24 hours a day) The song always
makes me cry, the TV movie made me cry and last
night's live performance made me cry again.
The story is about two families whose lives come
together for but a brief moment, and those lives end up
being changed forever. The story was well told, the
musical numbers were performed by talented and
excited individuals and my daughter and I came away
with a renewed understanding of our blessings and
benefits. The last performance is tonight at 6:00 PM at
the Family Worship Center on Troxel Road in Lansdale.
Admission is free - a free will offering is taken.
Folllow through with the little things - be spontaneous
and enjoy special moments before the season is over
for another year. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
A Little Bit of Truth
This month it is my pleasure to provide some inspiration
for your holiday season. The quotes are taken from
the book PRIORITIES, copyright 1997. ISBN 1-881830-
39-X. It came to me as a stocking stuffer a few years
ago!
"The goal of much that is written about in life
management is to enable us to do more in less time.
But is this necessarily a desireable goal? Perhaps we
need to get less done, but the right things."
- Jean Fleming
"Happiness is being at peace, being with loved ones,
being comfortable. But most of all, it's having those
loved ones.
- Johnny Cash
"It is the soul that makes a man rich. He is rich or poor
according to what he is and not according to what he
has.
- Henry Ward Beecher
"There is a wonderful, mystical law of nature that the
three little things we crave most in life - happiness,
freedom, and peace of mind - are always attained by
giving them to someone else."
- unknown
